Great coffee, food and hospitality.

There’s something special about Mario’s (303 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy) that just keeps me coming back there every so often.  The coffee is superb, time and time again.  It’s a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Mmm, I can just taste their divine lasagna.  Hey, it’s gotta be good, it’s been in the same spot for 20 years.  Check it out next time you’re in Brunswick Street!

Mario's

We are spoilt for choice here in Melbourne, The Queer Film Festival starts on 15th March and The French Film Festival on 20th March.  What films do you think you will go and see?

The olives are in abundance here in the shops of Thornbury and I am keen to preserve some for later on this year.  Only trouble is I can’t find any big glass jars.  Does anyone know of any shops that sell them?

Sausages

I made the best discovery recently…  Continental sausages made just like those you find in Italy!  For those of you not in the know, check out:

Thornbury Meat Supply at 701 High Street, Thornbury.

I am hooked, the pork, fennel and chilli sausages are just divine!  My partner who has an aversion to fennel even adores them, she’s Italian and says they remind her of sausages from the Italian butcher of her childhood.  It’s so hard to find a good quality banger these days.  Check out your supermarket ones, if you are really lucky they will contain 80% meat.  Just don’t ask what the remaining 20% consists of!

With a little notice the butcher will even put these sausages in a round circle, yes no links, like a traditional Cumberland Sausage. Apparently, this is a great way to share your sausages with friends when you BBQ them.  Trouble is, you won’t want to share them!!

Do enjoy and remember, Tuesday is the butcher’s sausage making day!  You have been warned…
