There’s something special about Mario’s (303 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy) that just keeps me coming back there every so often. The coffee is superb, time and time again. It’s a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mmm, I can just taste their divine lasagna. Hey, it’s gotta be good, it’s been in the same spot for 20 years. I am hooked, the pork, fennel and chilli sausages are just divine! My partner who has an aversion to fennel even adores them,she’s Italian and says they remind her of sausages from the Italian butcher of her childhood. It’s so hard to find a good quality banger these days. Check out your supermarket ones, if you are really lucky they will contain 80% meat. Just don’t ask what the remaining 20% consists of!
With a little notice the butcher will even put these sausages in a round circle, yes no links, like a traditional Cumberland Sausage. Apparently, this is a great way to share your sausages with friends when you BBQ them. Trouble is, you won’t want to share them!!
